There’s nothing I love more than a good engagement shoot with an energetic and loving couple. Except, of course, acting as an engagement shoot photographer for a friend I’ve known for OVER 23 YEARS!! I’ve known Colleen since boys had cooties, five dollars was a fortune, and the only thing worth losing sleep over was a good board game (or some Origami fortune telling). I couldn’t possibly be more thrilled to be a part of such a major milestone in her life. Colleen is one of the kindest and most selfless people I’ve had the pleasure of sharing life with. Not to mention, she is GORGEOUS!!
Colleen and Dexter *technically* met at a Brewery in Charlotte where Colleen was working to supplement her teacher income (insert eyeroll re: teacher salaries in NC here). However, they didn’t start officially dating until after matching on a dating app. Though we could fault the pair for not grabbing each other’s digits prior to matching on the site - the universe has a funny way of knowing the “right time”. Their first date lasted several hours and, as Colleen puts it, “The rest is history”.
Though I typically work in and around Raleigh, North Carolina, we picked a MAGICAL spot at Bearwallow Mountain Trail for this shoot. The mountains were really showing off with the clear sky and I chose a morning shoot for the lighting to best compliment Colleen and Dexter’s skin and hair tones. Since their engagement was particularly intimate (he proposed on the top of Crowders mountain in Charlotte, NC with just the two of them present), I wanted to ensure it would be just as private and intimate at the engagement shoot. HELLOOOO EARLY MORNING HIKE! Luckily, I came packed with mini personal fans, snacks, and some water to keep everyone feeling fresh. And just look at this view! Definitely worth the work. .
The happy couple is set to be married at Springhill Suites of Uptown Charlotte. They will be using Steve with Split Second Sound as their DJ (known to get everyone on the dance floor) and hope everyone is able to let loose and have a good time! Lucky for me, I will also be acting as their wedding photographer on their big day. I honestly could not thank Colleen and Dexter enough for making my heart so happy and allowing me to celebrate this amazing day in their lives! I wish them both all the happiness in the world <3
