I bought tickets for this event back in April

Literally 1/2 a year ago I saw some obscure advertisement for this water lantern festival. I always wanted to go to the lights festival that I've seen around but I haven't been able to catch one near me. So when I saw the advertisement for this I immediately signed me and Andrew up.

At the time tickets were only $25

The craziest thing about this was the original day for the festival was in May. I almost had to sell our tickets because we have previous plans and I accidentally double booked us. Fortunately for us, the weather was less than ideal for the festival so they rescheduled it for August 31st.

Lake Reidsville Park

The event was located at Lake Reidsville Park which was about an hour and 1/2 drive from our house in Raleigh. It's about 30 minutes from Greensboro and 30 minutes from Winston Salem.

Little to no light pollution.

The sky was the clearest it's been in weeks. And with Lake Reidsville being so far from an urbanized area that starts were out and in full force. We (accidentally) took the scenic route home through the back roads and Burlington.

The festivities

Once you arrive you pay $3 to park in a field and walk down to the park. There are plenty of food trucks and games to play along with vendors selling some of their local goods. When you check in you get a bag that has your lantern and some markers to decorate your lantern.

Golden Hour

Everyone sits at the lake and decorate their lantern. The announcer brings a couple people up who want to talk about what the put on their lantern and why. Some stories were happy others, were competitive and sad. After the stories were told you spend a few minutes meditating together as a group getting yourself in the headspace and emotional position to truly celebrate what you wanted your lantern to symbolize.

The end result was absolutely gorgeous

People released their lights out into the lake... and the rest was history
